Work on the great irrigation scheme at Loskop began in July 1934. The dam was completed in 1938 and built to supply water to a growing population in South Africa. The wall was sited on a narrow 'poort' on the great Olifants River. In just over two years, a dam wall of approximately 1 400 feet at the crest, and 105 feet high, was constructed. Situated 15km from Loskopdam.
